Beyond the Trend: Is Your "Healthy" Habit Actually Right for You?

These days, "well-being" is a word on everyone’s lips. While many associate it with expensive products, true well-being begins with the small, mindful choices we make in our daily diets. Authentic health comes from reflecting on your own habits and choosing what truly resonates with your unique physical constitution.

The Morning Glass of Cold Water: A Refreshing Mistake?

A common "healthy" habit is drinking ice-cold water first thing in the morning. However, because the body’s energy naturally rises in the morning, cold water can shock the stomach and dampen your internal energy. While it may help those with "excess heat" or constipation, those with a naturally cold constitution should be especially careful, as it can lead to colds or digestive issues, particularly in autumn and winter.

Tea Choices: Understanding "Cooling" Properties

Many switch from coffee to green tea, but it’s important to know its cooling nature. If someone with a weak stomach or a cold body drinks green tea frequently, it can cause phlegm and indigestion. Similarly, peppermint and chrysanthemum teas are excellent for dispelling "wind-heat" (fever or headaches), but their cooling property means they should be avoided by those with cold-related conditions.

Embracing Warmth: Summer Tonics for Balance

As winter gives way to spring and eventually the heat of summer, our bodies require different types of support. Interestingly, well-known summer tonics like Samgyetang (삼계탕, chicken soup with ginseng) and ingredients like garlic possess warming properties. These foods help balance the body’s internal temperature, especially when we are exposed to external heat or cold air conditioning.

True well-being is about harmony. Whether it’s choosing a warming soup in the summer or avoiding ice water in the winter, the key is listening to what your body specifically needs. Finding your own balance is the ultimate path to lasting health.
